Coverage: Wedding Package 4 (“The Favorite”)
Scope: 8 hours of wedding day coverage with two photographers (Aaron + Nanore); engagement photography; Heirloom Album.

There’s something about a Hammond Castle Gloucester wedding that allows couples to fully lean into their style. The castle’s dramatic stonework, Gothic arches, ocean views, and candlelit interiors create a backdrop that can shift from fairytale to Renaissance to moody and romantic.

Sarah and Max made it entirely their own.

We’ve had the privilege of photographing their engagement, wedding, and later, their baby shower — and their wedding day felt like a culmination of their unmistakable edge and personality.

From Sarah’s striking presence and intricate inkwork to Max’s sharp tailcoat and wingtip brogues, their style never felt curated for the camera — it was wholly their own.

Before the wedding, Sarah and Max told us they wanted mostly candid coverage during the getting ready portion of the day. For the rest of the celebration, they trusted our artistic instinct. What they didn’t want were “cookie cutter” shots full of forced smiles and exaggerated reactions — especially since Max is famously not a fan of smiling on cue.

What we heard was this: They wanted to feel like themselves. No performance required.

As alternative Boston wedding photographers, we’re always drawn to couples who value self-expression over tradition. A non traditional wedding at Hammond Castle Museum offers the perfect canvas for personality — whether that leans gothic, romantic, editorial, or entirely unexpected.

Getting Ready in Rockport

We began our eight-hour coverage at 3pm at the Rockport Inn & Suites, where the wedding party prepared on opposite ends of the property. Aaron documented Sarah and her crew, while Nanore spent the afternoon with Max and his side.

The anticipation built quietly — no first look, no early reveal. They would see each other for the first time during the ceremony inside the castle’s Great Hall.

Arriving at Hammond Castle

Sarah arrived at Hammond Castle about 45 minutes before Max to step into her dress on site. Once ready, we took portraits in the Great Hall — its dark walls and medieval details adding instant drama — before heading outside.

Late October had begun to strip the trees of their foliage, leaving behind a softer, moodier coastal palette. During golden hour, we brought Sarah to the castle’s iconic arches overlooking the water. As if on cue, a sailboat drifted across the horizon. The resulting image — Sarah framed by the arches as the sailboat drifted past — remains one of our favorite sunset portraits at Hammond Castle.

A Dramatic Ceremony in the Great Hall

At 6pm, guests took their seats on gold Chiavari chairs inside the dimly lit Great Hall. The atmosphere was intimate and cinematic — the kind of setting that feels transported from another era.

Justice of the Peace John Maihos, no stranger to Hammond Castle Museum, conducted a heartfelt and personal ceremony that felt perfectly matched to the setting.

When Sarah and Max finally locked eyes at the altar, there was no theatricality — just depth, connection, and a quiet intensity that felt very them.

Portraits, Courtyard Mingling, and an Ornate Dagger

After the ceremony, we moved into family and wedding party portraits before carving out time for some creative portraits with just the two of them. Moody stone corridors. Architectural symmetry. A few dramatic frames that leaned into their rock ’n’ roll edge.

As guests explored the courtyard and castle grounds, staff transformed the Great Hall for the reception. Catering was provided by Creative Catering, who seamlessly transitioned the space from ceremony to celebration.

The wedding cake — black fondant adorned with gold flakes — was cut not with a traditional cake knife, but with an ornate dagger. A fitting detail that felt both theatrical and completely authentic to their aesthetic.

From Gothic Romance to Full-On Party

Later in the evening, Sarah swapped her gown for a fun mini dress and fuzzy white slippers — the official signal that the party had begun.

With Entertainment Concepts keeping the dance floor alive, the night unfolded exactly as Sarah and Max had envisioned: relaxed, unforced, energetic, and entirely their own — complete with a chocolate fondue fountain that kept guests happily returning for one more bite.

No cookie-cutter moments.

No staged exuberance.

Just a wedding day that reflected who they are.

And at a venue like Hammond Castle Museum, that kind of individuality doesn’t just fit — it thrives.
